All adults are the same age

I've long held two theories on age: 1) All adults are the same age and 2) Anybody who is taller than me is older than me. (I'm 5'4" – what does that tell you?)

I developed these theories, ok – rationalizations, when I was an active participant in the dating pool. Should an intriguing suitor happen to be more than 5...10...15 (gasp!) years older than I, then theory number 1 would apply. But should a tall, handsome cowboy be more than 5...10...15 years younger than I, then theory number 2 applied.

I got to thinking about my theories on age this week when I reconnected with my little sister, J. J and I were matched through the Big Brother/Big Sister program when she was 10 and I was 40.

J moved out of state after she graduated from high school, and we lost touch for awhile. But through the miracle of Google and blogging, she found her way to the 7MSN and sent me an e-mail. We got together on Monday to catch up. She's 24 now, and I'm...old. But it was the first time we got together as two adults. And it was pretty cool.

I'm looking forward to staying connected and getting reacquainted as adults. She's taller than me now (and who isn't?), but in this case, I'll apply theory number 1.

  8. How fun that you two reconnected! Our daughter stays in touch with one of her middle school "fluties", who is now MARRIED and PREGNANT! Jennifer has done a lot with her and they go out for lunch once a month. Not only was she her teacher, now she is her good friend. Sometimes I run into former students and I don't even recognize them, but they always come running up to me!

  12. Linda it doesn't surprise me at all that you were in that Big Sister program. You have that generous spirit and she probably turned out to be a great young woman because of the influence you had on her. This is so great that you found each other again.
