Splendor in what's left of the grass

Lyle is chowing down on the last of the good stuff – a cold front is moving in tonight, which will probably render the rest of the pasture grass tasteless.

Those cactus you see? Cholla...a positively evil species, which I've whined about here. But maybe I'm missing out on a great marketing opportunity. I saw this ad on craig's list this week:

LARGE CHOLLA AND PRICKLY PEAR FOR SALE

4 FT HIGH CHOLLA--$ 99
3 FT HIGH CHOLLA--$ 68

QUANTITY PRICING AVAILABLE

I guess P.T. Barnum was right.

  1. Man, we could make a fortune if we could find enough buyers for Cholla cactus. It would be he## to handle them. I have tried rubber and heavy plastic gloves and those stickers still manage to get through to my skin.

Great Autumn picture of your horse in the grass.

  2. Great picture. I'm not sure who would buy that cholla for that price, but like you said there's one born every minute.

  3. Ack! Cactus. Scares me! Riding in the desert I'm alway afraid I'm going to get ditched from my rental horse and do face plant in that stuff!
I was just wondering....what have your feline friends been up to these days???

  7. Funny you should ask, Ponygirl. Deets has been modeling for a VERY special skywatch photo that I'll be posting on Oct. 30.

  9. Beautifully serene photo, in spite of the cacti. Too bad that the summer feast is coming to an end.

  11. It never ceases to amaze me what you can find for sale on craigslist. I'll bet they find some "takers" too. Some people could sell sand to an Arab my dad always said!! I too, think your picture of your horse grazing is very serene...I can almost hear him chewing. I love that sound, don't you? I like to sit in the barn and just listen when the horses are eating their dinner, it's very peaceful and relaxing. Now if you could figure out a way to sell that feeling - you'd really have something!!

  13. Unbelievable!! I've had more than my fair share of close encounters with "jumping cactus"!! I sure wouldn't buy one or plant it in my yard!!

I have seen ads up here for Oregon Grape, Salal, Vine Maples and other invasive native species that grow everywhere....like you said (or B&B) there's a sucker born every minute.....:)

  14. Funny about the cholla sales! Do you know I actually saw once a woman who was collecting tumbleweeds and selling them on the internet! She was making money!
