Saturday encore ~ Frosty Paws, from the frugal gourmet

The weather's starting to warm up – time to make some frozen treats for your favorite dog...or pig. I posted this recipe last spring and Smooch is officially addicted. A few things I've learned over the batches: the ingredients are easier to combine in a food processor than in a blender, and the paper Dixie cups don't hold up very well, so now I recycle the little plastic cups from individual servings of pudding and use those.

Warning: catchy tune coming up. Please don't hate me if you're humming all day.

  1. Most certainly Dannon Yogurt Co. will be contacting you very soon to do a 30 second spot on TV! LOL

  2. Any one of those ingredients would make me a hero at Casa Fry. They all hang like vultures waiting for a few licks from the empty yogurt container.

  5. That was great! Lucky dog, lucky pig. :) And yes, the song is now ingrained in my mind forever.

  6. These do look good! I would like some of that, too. I may try some later! Give Smooch a pat for me.

  7. Sweetpea and Q say thanks for the frugal frosty paws recipe!!

At our place - little dog (Q) gets to lick the top half of the yogurt container and big dog (SP) gets to clean up the bottom with her more sizable tongue ;)

  10. We have a geriatric potbellied pig who rarely comes out of his shelter any more. He can turn his head while lying down and get his snout into the food dish. And he loves the banana peels.

I rarely read recipes, but this one I'm going to try out.

  12. Slightly less frugal- but Nancy's, or Cascade organic lowfat plain yogurt has MANY more live cultures, and gut-healthy probiotics. Excellent for both porcine, and canine customers. (heck, give some to the ponies too!) :D It's fantastic on top of a bit of grain.

Bonus: WAAAAYYYYYY lower sugar in the plain, and I promise, no one will know the difference.

Another added yummy treat in the mix (again, not exactly frugal, but good for them regardless) would be coconut oil.
