About

Nineteen years ago, I jumped off the corporate ladder when I got to the top and realized, "What was I thinking? I hate this! I'm too short for this much responsibility!" I quit my job, walked away from the fancy lifestyle, and moved to New Mexico, where I'd never been and didn't know a soul.

I soon figured out what makes me the happiest – being around animals – and found a new career that allowed me to work from home and have the time and resources to have a whole herd. One thing led to another, and now I live on a ranch located 7 Miles South of Nowhere, New Mexico.

This series of posts pretty much sums up the whole story.
My fairy tale...except it's true: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4

And if you've ever wondered how the 7MSN got its name, the explanation is at the end of Part 4.

  1. Driven. That's what this gal is. Driven to be a loyal friend. Driven to do everything to its highest and best. After being a neighbor then friend for over 20 years I'm thrilled at where she has taken her life and what she is today. . . driven to live her life in a full and authentic way. Yee Haw.

  2. I've visited your blog via your link on OPOD - thanks! The cowboy to whom you referred DOES look like the homesteader in the OPOD 1942 photo. Nice to visit your photos, ranch, and perspective.

Re" your locoweed project, I'm pulling out the non-native wild mustard from otherwise pristine acreage in the Cleveland Nat'l Forest - east San Diego County.

  3. My name is Lennie and I am one of Estorbo's brothers. I am sorry to hear about your concern re Deets' wanderings and for that reason hope he comes home soon. We get carried away we cats when we wander and forget that home fires are burning for us - globally.

    Keep the flame.

  4. Twenty years ago, I found myself in a similar position and I packed up my car and ended up in Santa Fe. That wasn't the end of the trail and a lot has happened since. New Mexico is my hearts home. As I looked at your pictures, it came to me where you were ... approximately ... and I just sat and thought about how much I miss my home. I'm temporarily (I hope)living in a major city on the east coast and waiting for the right opportunity to go back 'home'. Great blog, glad I found it. ~M
